Guide to Getting Started With Summer

A powerful platform designed to help you manage customers, users, and projects with ease.

Your Administrator’s Guide

A simple, step-by-step guide for administrators and account owners to configure your account with Summer’s core features.

1. Customers

Start by creating one or more customers in your account.

Click on ‘Administration’ in the menu to get started with configuring your account.

A Customer represents the business name of your client.

  • You can create an unlimited number of customers at no charge.
  • Important: Customers cannot be deleted once created.

2. Users

Users are the people (staff or customers) who access Summer.

  • When creating a user, provide a valid email and a password.
  • Summer will automatically send the user an email to reset their password and access their account securely.
  • No passwords are ever transmitted by Summer.

User Roles

  • Staff – can manage tickets and conversations.
  • Administrator – can create and manage customers, users, and projects.

Account Management

  • Users cannot be deleted.
  • To revoke access, disable the account. Disabled users no longer count toward your quota or billing.

Project Assignment

After creating a user, you must manually associate them with one or more projects.

3. Projects

Projects are the foundation of Summer. Every activity takes place within a project.

  • You must have at least one project to begin.
  • Projects can be internal (for your team) or customer-facing.
  • Your account has a limit on the total number of projects, based on your plan.

4. Accounts

Update your plan on your account on the Summer website.

5. Tickets

Tickets are how you track requests, tasks, and issues.

Ticket Types

  • Support – customer support requests.
  • Evolution – feature requests or improvements.
  • Update – change requests or version updates.

Each ticket has a status to track its progress.

Ticket Assignment

  • When creating a ticket, assign a User as ‘Manager’ of the task.
  • This action sends an email notification only to the responsible user.
  • The responsible user can be changed at any time.
  • By default, the ticket creator becomes the responsible user. If you assign it to yourself, you will not receive an email.

Ticket Visibility

  • Subscribers can view the tickets on their dashboard.
  • All tickets are linked to their associated project.

6. Conversations

Each project includes a Conversation Board, where users can exchange messages.

  • Conversations act as a message board for ongoing communication.
  • They keep discussions centralized, so nothing gets lost in email threads.

7. Documents

Store and manage project-related files directly in Summer.

  • You can upload documents up to the available GB quota in your plan.
  • External links (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox) can also be attached.

Key Notes

  • Customers cannot be deleted.
  • Users cannot be deleted but can be disabled.
  • Each project requires at least one responsible user for tickets.
  • Notifications are always sent to the responsible user, never to the entire team.
